Remove an image background in your browser

Create a clean, full-resolution cutout without uploading your photo. Refine the automatic mask, repair tricky edges and export with transparency or a new background.

Your image stays local. The first run downloads an AI model. After that, processing happens on your device.

Quality without an upload

A detailed cutout, with a human final pass.

The 1024-pixel AI matte is designed to separate a main subject from its surroundings, including portraits, products, animals and everyday objects. The mask is applied to the original-resolution image, so the export keeps the source dimensions.

Automatic removal can struggle with low contrast, glass, motion blur or a busy background. Use Cutout balance and Edge feather for global cleanup, then paint with Restore subject or Erase background where the model needs help.

The image is decoded, processed and exported on your device. Only the reusable model and browser runtime are downloaded; the photo itself is not sent to ImageFromText or the model host.

How it works

Remove a background in three steps.

  1. Choose and process.Add a JPG, PNG or WebP, then select Remove background. The first run downloads the local AI model.
  2. Inspect the edges.Hold the compare button, try the cutout on light and dark backgrounds, and repair missed areas with the restore or erase brush.
  3. Export at full size.Choose transparent PNG or WebP, or place the subject on a colour and download JPG.

Background removal questions

What happens on your device.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Your image is processed in browser memory. The browser downloads reusable model files, but your selected photo is never sent with that request.

Why is the first run slower?

The browser must download and prepare the AI model once. It uses a high-quality WebGPU model when supported and a smaller WebAssembly version on compatible browsers. Cached repeat visits are usually much faster.

How can I improve hair or soft edges?

Use a small amount of feathering, inspect the subject on both light and dark backgrounds, and paint small corrections with Restore subject or Erase background.

Which export format keeps transparency?

PNG is the safest choice for transparent cutouts. WebP can also keep transparency in modern browsers. JPG always replaces transparency with the selected preview colour.
